The ancient story of the bride and the groom - Diyarbakir's Memory
FROM SOURCE:
The establishment of a new family, the foundation of a "home" takes place through a series of customs accumulated over millennia. In the past, this process was one when the future couple did not have much say in choosing each other and forming a union: They surrendered to tradition, and from asking for a girl's hand in marriage to dowry, engagement, sherbet, wedding and the nuptial night, each ritual has different symbols. Writer Birsen Inal has written about each stage of this procedure in Diyarbakir culture and the "toy" [wedding ceremony] of Diyarbakir, while Can Sakarer has told the story of the path that leads to marriage according to Assyrian traditions.
